Hunting in Gedinne 2026-2027: calendar & walking

Walkers on a woodland path along the forest edge in the Belgian Ardennes

When is there hunting in Gedinne? From early October until the end of January, driven hunts take place in the municipality's forests. All hunting days per territory are in the official 2026-2027 Gedinne hunting calendar (pdf, in French). If you come here to walk or cycle, that is no reason to stay indoors — only to check, before you set off, where a driven hunt is planned that day. We have lived here for 25 years and do exactly the same.

Hunting in Gedinne: how does a driven hunt work?

During a driven hunt (in French: battue), one hunting territory is closed for a day. The tracks and paths running through it are then off limits to everyone, including walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The next day the forest is open again. Each territory only has a handful of hunting days per season, so there is always a forest nearby where you can go.

The official "CHASSE EN COURS" (hunt in progress) notices at the start of a forest track always take precedence over any calendar. If there is a notice, turn around — even if the calendar says otherwise.

Gedinne hunting calendar 2026-2027: where to find the hunting days

Every year the municipality of Gedinne publishes a map of all hunting territories with their dates. That calendar is indicative: dates can still change during the season. That is why we do not copy the dates here, but point you to the source:

How to recognise a hunting day on the ground

  • Notices at the start of forest tracks saying "CHASSE EN COURS" or listing the announced hunting dates.
  • Horns, dogs and gunshots, often audible from far away.
  • 4x4s parked along the road and hunters, often in fluorescent orange.

Not sure? Pick another route. In autumn, stay on the waymarked paths anyway and wear something bright — it is not compulsory, just common sense.

What to do on a hunting day?

Plenty. If your favourite forest is closed for the day, it is the moment for an outing without forest paths:

  • Bouillon Castle — Godfrey's fortress high above the Semois.
  • The Caves of Han — underground, neither the weather nor the hunt gets in the way.
  • Dinant — the citadel, the Meuse and a terrace.

The Tour du Millénaire on the Croix-Scaille may also be exceptionally closed on a hunting day — so check the calendar before you go up. All our walks are on the walks page.

Frequently asked questions

Can you go walking in the Ardennes during the hunting season?

Yes. Only the hunting territory where a driven hunt takes place that day is closed, and that is just a handful of days per season per territory. All other forests remain open.

When is the hunting season in Gedinne?

Driven hunts run from early October to the end of January. Every September the municipality of Gedinne publishes a map of all hunting territories with their dates; the 2026-2027 calendar is on actugedinne.be.

How do you know whether a forest is closed for hunting?

Official "CHASSE EN COURS" notices are posted at the start of the forest tracks. These notices always take precedence over the published calendar. Beforehand you can look up the hunting days in the municipal calendar or on ChasseOnWeb, the Walloon government map.

Does the ban also apply to cyclists and mountain bikers?

Yes. On a hunting day, the tracks and paths in the hunting territory are closed to all users: walkers, cyclists, mountain bikers and horse riders.

Where can you find the Gedinne hunting calendar?

Online at actugedinne.be (page "Calendrier des battues 2026-2027", with map and pdf) and on paper at the town hall and the tourist office in Gedinne. For the whole of Wallonia there is ChasseOnWeb.
