History: building and rebuilding
The Croix-Scaille has carried lookout towers for a century — four military towers between 1914 and 1944. The current Tour du Millénaire was approved in 1999 and raised upright on 28 August 2001, built around six local Douglas firs. Official inauguration: 13 October 2001.
In 2008 the tower was dismantled after the wood was attacked, and rebuilt in 2012 with a metal load-bearing structure. In August 2024 it closed again due to worn beams; the 2025–2026 renovation replaced the structure with galvanised steel and tropical wood. Since May 2026 — its 25th anniversary — the tower is open again. The full story is in our journal: Tour du Millénaire Gedinne.
