Bouillon Castle
heritage site in Bouillon
A thousand-year-old castle on three rock peaks above the Semois. Birds of prey show, night visits and medieval festival.

Bouillon Castle is one of the oldest and most impressive castles in Belgium. For over 1,000 years the fortress has perched on three rock peaks above the Semois. 135,000 visitors per year — and deservedly so.
What you can do
- Explore the castle — 340 metres long, with underground passages, the Tour d'Autriche (360° panorama), the torture chamber, the Salle Godefroy and the drawbridge mechanism
- Birds of prey show — Spectacular falconry demonstration in the courtyard. Eagles, falcons and owls fly just above your head
- Night visit — During holidays you can visit the castle with torches. Children find this unforgettable
- L'Odyssée de Lumière — New sound and light show that takes you through the centuries
A bit of history
The castle dates from before the year 1000. Its most famous resident was Godfrey of Bouillon, who in 1096 sold the castle to the Bishop of Liège to finance the First Crusade. It later became a strategic stronghold under the French, Spanish and Dutch.
Why we recommend it
The combination of history, spectacle and the breathtaking views over the Semois valley makes this a top trip. Also take time to stroll through the town of Bouillon — the Semois meanders through it like a ribbon.
