Nature trail with young beech trees in Graide forest

In the forest of Graide, 20 minutes from ArdenNest, you help the wood nymph Naïa save nature from a mysterious monster. Symbiosa is neither a theme park nor a climbing park — it is an interactive forest trail where children, parents and grandparents solve riddles together around the four elements: earth, air, water and fire.

Each child picks an ancient trade (miner, botanist, blacksmith, balloonist, water diviner) and takes on a role in the story. The four elements lead to four worlds filled with observation games, balance challenges and eco-reflections. The quest ends in Naïa's lair for the final mystery.

Why we recommend Symbiosa for 3 generations together

Symbiosa is one of the rare outings in the Belgian Ardennes where grandfather and grandmother, mum and dad and the youngest ones all join in together. The pace is child-friendly — walking, not running — and the modules call for cooperation rather than physical strength. We noticed the grandparents had as much fun as the grandchildren, because everyone brings a unique skill to solving the puzzle.

The nature themes (biodiversity, pollution, respect for wildlife) chime with what many families want to pass on: time away from screens, with questions that linger.

What you experience on site

  • Real forest trail, no artificial scenery
  • Four sensory worlds (earth, air, water, fire)
  • Modules where cooperation beats speed
  • Real characters to meet: Naïa, Goupil the fox, Milano the eagle, Torpille the otter and Rosse the mare
  • A final mystery the whole family unravels together
  • Time to truly notice nature — not race through it

From ArdenNest

Symbiosa is close by — just a 20-minute drive through the gentle hills of the Namur province. Leave Gedinne towards Bièvre and follow the signs to Graide. Our tip: leave after a quiet breakfast around 1 pm to arrive in the early afternoon, and plan dinner either at one of our recommended restaurants or back in the kitchen at ArdenNest.

Book ahead — Symbiosa works in time slots. Times and booking via the official site.

FAQ

From what age?

The trail works best for children aged 4 to 12. Younger ones can come along in a stroller for the walking sections, but the modules aren't designed for them. Teens may find the story a bit young — for them we'd rather suggest Dinant Evasion or Cap Nature.

Can grandparents do the whole trail?

Yes. It's a walk, not a climbing course. Bring good shoes — forest paths, sometimes uneven.

How long does it take?

Plan 2 to 3 hours, depending on how long you linger at each module.

Is everything in English?

The park is multilingual (EN, NL, FR, DE). Hosts are happy to help.

What if it rains?

Symbiosa is an outdoor activity. Light rain is fine (bring rainwear), heavy storms sometimes lead to cancellation. Check their website before leaving.
